The sea area of Bangladesh are of immense value and importance to the country and its people. the Bay is very rich with marine fisheries resources. some of the important fishing grounds are 'Swatch of no Grounds','Middle Ground','South patches' and 'Kohinoor Point'. These fishing grounds attract many local fisherman and also illegal fishermanfrom foreign countries. Besides, gas fields hav been discovered in this area and there is good prospect of striking hydrocarbon inthe area. The livelihood of millions of people of Bangladesh and the economy of the country are greatly dependent on its resources in sea areas and its numerous rivers. Considering the importance of safeguarding national interest and maintaining law and order in these areas, Bangladesh Coast Guard was formed under Coast Guard Act,1994.
